General information, not tax, legal or financial advice. We are not the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Check Canada.ca or ask a qualified professional. Sources read on 17 October 2026. Dates after 2026 are expected until the CRA publishes its own 2027 notices. Examples use made-up numbers. This page contains no affiliate links.
Short answer: T4, T4A, T4A-NR, T4PS and T4A-RCA information returns are due by the last day of February after the calendar year. 28 February 2027 is a Sunday, so under the CRA's weekend rule the deadline is expected to move to Monday, 1 March 2027. The CRA 2027 fact sheet states the weekend rule and the February rule; the 1 March date is our calculation, not a CRA quote.
What the CRA says
- Filing deadline: file your T4, T4A, T4A-NR, T4PS and T4A-RCA information returns by the last day of February after the preceding calendar year.
- When a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or CRA-recognized public holiday, the information is on time if the CRA receives it, or it is postmarked, on or before the next business day.
Applying it to 2027
| Item | Date |
|---|---|
| Last day of February 2027 | Sunday, 28 February |
| Next business day, expected | Monday, 1 March |
Plan to file earlier rather than on the last day, since the CRA could publish a different 2027 notice.
Who
This applies to businesses with payroll accounts that issue these slips. You must also give each employee their T4 slip by the last day of February after the year the slips cover, which is expected to be 1 March 2027 for 2026 slips because 28 February 2027 is a Sunday (CRA, Distribute the slips; 2027 fact sheet weekend rule). Remittances are separate: see payroll remittance due dates.
FAQ
Is the T4 due on 1 March for sure? It is expected from the weekend rule; check Canada.ca/payroll-file near the date.
Do slips go to employees by the same date? Per the CRA page on distributing slips, by the last day of February of the following calendar year (expected 1 March 2027 for 2026 slips); the CRA page was seen as a search extract.
What we could not verify
- The CRA's own statement of the 2027 T4 date (the fact sheet gives the rule; the 1 March date is calculated).
- Late-slip penalties for T4s: not verified for 2026 (the CRA guide RC4120 was seen only as a search extract, with amounts published for 2025 slips, so none are given here).
- Whether any CRA notice changes the 2027 deadline.
