A freelancer tax calendar for 2027

Self-employed people file the 2026 return on 15 June 2027 and pay any balance on 30 April 2027. June does not move April. Add employees or a GST/HST account and the same page sorts those dates, including the weekend shift.

The date people get wrong

Filing on 15 June 2027 does not push the payment. A balance owing is due on 30 April 2027. That is true for the income-tax balance, and it is true for the GST/HST annual payment of a qualifying self-employed individual. Check Canada.ca.

Pay

30 April 2027, a Friday. Expected payment date for a balance owing. Not moved by a June filing date.

File

15 June 2027, a Tuesday, if you are self-employed and the tax-shelter exception does not apply. Individuals who are not self-employed file on 30 April.

Do not swap

1 February 2027 is Q4 2026 GST/HST, because 31 January is a Sunday. Employment T4 slips are expected 1 March. 31 March is not quarterly.

Questions readers ask

Does 15 June give more time to pay? No. A balance owing is due on 30 April 2027. The filing date does not push the payment.

Why does 31 January become 1 February, and whose date is that? 31 January 2027 is a Sunday. The next business day is 1 February 2027. That expected date is Q4 2026 GST/HST, the period that ended 31 December 2026. It is not the employment T4 deadline. T4 slips use the last day of February, expected 1 March 2027. 31 March is not a quarterly GST/HST date.

What does the calendar send to a server? Nothing. The date list and the .ics file are built in the browser. The contact form is a separate page and runs only when you press Send.
